Navaja De Afeitar Española Palmera - $ 2.000,00 en MercadoLibre

The price is not very nice.
It is a beautiful razor. Love old Spanish 14's.
At ~25% of the asking price, I'd be sorely tempted. At 20% it would be in the mail to me. But at even half the asking price I would suspect the seller has been huffing spray paint.
$2k is pure lunacy.
Maybe the currency is Argentine pesos :).
Interesting to note, these could be had for substantially less than a comparable Filli a few years back.
It's Argentinos Pesos, dudes.
Still far from cheap, indeed
You cannot really go wrong with Solingen steel and razor makers...
Have sold no less than 8 Palmeras in the past year,One of the few razors IME that actually hold there value.
When you consider that few new razors cost less than $116, I still consider this to be a very good deal.
Email the seller and ask.
Wow. Just confirmed, it is indeed ARG pesos.
If a person had the ambition to determine how to obtain membership on the sight and if the seller would ship international, they'd own one heck of a razor at one heck of a price. For me personally however, the fact that the seller is new enough on that sight to not have any seller ratings, and my scam radar is calibrated to hyper-sensitive, I'll watch from the sidelines.
Sure hope it pans out for someone, I'd love to see some nice pics of it here!
Based on current exchange would be a hair less than $154 USD. Of course there is a risk for me for reasons above. I tend to stick to what I know...
Dudes, my wife's family is from Argentina. Thinking of taking a trip there next year and there are 2 things I'll be on the lookout for. Straight razors and leather for strop making!
Let us know how you make out with that razor
I joined the site, still having problems with payment arrangements. No response from the seller to my questions. I tend to not buy things from people who don't talk to me, especially if a price seems TOO nice. Know what I mean?
One of these cases where "Like" isn't absolutely appropriate, but must suffice as we currently don't have the option to press the "Vigorously Agree" button.
Sadly, the whole thing just seemed like the minutiae were going to make this a hard transaction to conduct.
Keep us posted. I'm morbidly interested :D. Will cross my fingers for you!
Slightly unrelated, but the heir of a well known Solingen brand has 50 keisters with 20 razors each. Those were just "a few samples" for the Argentine market. Given that not so long ago Filarmonica razors went for $100 max (good, but those scales...), there should be many of them (and other nice vintage razors) around. Same as razor shopping in Sweden...
Sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs to find a princess.
Mercadolibre is just the Latin America ebay site. Same rules apply.
I would not buy anything from a vendor who wasn´t pleased to talk with me first, although I bought my MK1 helje through this site without any problem. Feedback from vendor is a must for me. Being a antiquarian digger oftem makes me cry for discount as a motherless banshee, as learned from my first employer, a Lebanese businessman. I am so poor.
Robin,
I am wondering if your procurement of those blades was either over a decade ago or from a generally unavailable to typical public source like the bay… I'm just trying to gauge the current validity of that comment, since that seems a bit off from what I've been seeing in the market.
When you mention "well made", what are we talking about? Blade material/grind or scale material or aesthetics like etch/wash/spine work?
14 blades are awesome so long as they are near their original spec height. They take on really unpleasant handling characteristics the shorter they get. The balance and feel go out the window which is bad news on steel that takes a particularly vicious edge. I had an ern 14 that ripped me apart every time. I'd rather have a lot of other razors over a 14 even though they are top quality.
I bought this one roughly two years ago off eBay. It was €35. The one below was €15, also off eBay. As you can see, nondescript scales (thank God), and very well pinned. Extreme hollow grinds, close to the best made #14 blade I own, the Mehl in the Wiki. Granted, you need to know what to look for, but it is entirely possible.
Its not a big deal if I don't ever hear back. I don't need a Palmera. I just want to be able to say I have one. I have lots of better blades. If I wanted one bad enough, there is a certain some one who I'm sure I could toss large sums of cash at who would be able to locate "one" for me.
A long forgtton lot came to the U.S from Portugal several yrs back (20 razors) all full 8/8s bellied.
All had to be re-scaled.
All gone((((((((((((((((((((((
I said, "they are good razors, which can safely be presumed to have been forged, and ground, in Solingen until someone comes up with actual proof that they were made elsewhere - nothing more, nothing less".
So what? Those #14 and #13 blanks were made by the hundreds of thousands. There will be more. There will always be more. And besides, the same steel was used for more than just those numbered blanks. So relax, release your ( key, and enjoy the shave.
I think pixelfixed was referring to the ones he had Robin.
I was,and Robin, simetime posts are to short to post without riding the key.
